In the past three years, I’ve visited many botanical gardens and more often than not, the “garden art” is Dale Chihuly, the Seattle glass artist whose monumental, colorful, dramatic and whimsical works are installed throughout the horticultural park. People flock to see the sometimes garish, always dramatic. Do gardens need that? Just checking. It’s the trend to curate exhibits that bring in new members and visitors resulting in revenue. Most recently, he is exhibiting at the Denver Botanic Garden.
